History lessons 121-25

HI! I did another weeks worth of history. I did lessons 121-125, and those lessons were about: The Light Bulb, the Cash Register, the Thermostat, and the Steam Turbine. Hope you like this essay!!! 😛

The Cash Register:

James Ritty was born in 1836, in Ohio. He had dreamed of becoming a doctor when he grew up, and when he grew up, he briefly attended a university, but then left. He joined the Army, and was a captain when he retired at age 28. Ritty then decided to give up doctoring, and then opened up a saloon (its kind of like a bar). He noticed that many of his employee’s were stealing money from him. He left on a trip to Europe, and when on the boat taking him here, he saw a machine that counted whenever the boats propeller rotated a full circle. He wondered it he could somehow tweak this machine to help him with his saloon. When he got home, he and his brother (who was a mechanic) stared building the cash register. They tried two times, but on the third, in 1879, they got it right. They called their new invention RITTY’s INCORRUPTIBLE CASHIER.

The Steam Turbine:

Charles Parsons was born in England in 1854. He liked to help his dad in his astronomical work. When he for a job at a ship making co. He got to learn how to make weapons (because the people at the ship co. made a lot of diff. things.) and ships. Then he joined a locomotive making co.. They made lots of diff. things other than locmotives. Parsons made rocket powered torpedos for them. Then Parsons got a job at another ship making co., where he built the Steam Turbine in 1844.

Thermostat:

Warren Johnson was bornn in Vermont in 1847. When he was three, his family moved to Wisconson. He taught himself becuase he never really had the chance to get formal/proper education. When Johnson got older, he held many jobs, some of which were a printer, survayer, teacher, and then he was a principal. He became a science professer at what is now the University of Wisconson when he was 28. He invented the Thermostat in 1883 to regulate the university’s tempature.

Light Bulbs:

In 1802, Humphry Davy invented the arc light. One problem with his invention was the it was too powerful to be put in small spaces like the bathroom. It was too dangerous and hot, and bright. People started to try to invent the perfect light bulb in 1800’s, but all of their attempts kind of FAILED. Thomas Edison obsessed over making the perfect light bulb, he tried over 3000 versions before he could invent the one we use today in 1879.

I hope you liked this essay and thanks for reading!!!
